The Haas Wireless Intuitive Probing System for lathes (WIPS-L) is a complete probing package that includes a turret-mounted probe and optical machine interface, along with powerful software that guides the operator through the probing process with intuitive, easy-to-use templates. WIPS can be used for rapid first-off part inspection, in-process reporting, and monitoring unattended machining operations. It can also be used to update work offsets to account for tool wear for ultimate part accuracy. The system includes the Haas Visual Programming System, macros, and spindle orientation. NOTE: Requires the purchase of a 25 mm ID toolholder.

The Haas Wireless Intuitive Probing System for lathes (WIPS-L) includes the powerful Haas Visual Programming System (VPS), which uses easy-to-follow conversational templates to program common probing operations. Haas continues to expand the template library to include all of the common operations that job shops perform.

Additionally, the templates are customizable by the user, providing the flexibility to adapt the probing cycles to each customer’s parts and needs.

WIPS-L is Easy to Program and Learn

WIPS-L uses a fully conversational programming system based on simple dialog in the Haas control. The operator / programmer simply follows step-by-step visual and text instructions for each probing operation. There are no mathematical calculations required, and programming at the control is fast and efficient. The Haas control will generate an error-free CNC program based on the answers provided.

Easy Step-by-Step Calibration for Optimal Performance

The WIPS-L system must be calibrated at the initial machine setup to ensure high-accuracy probing. While this process only needs to be done once, in cases where high-precision feature measurements are required, it is recommended to perform the calibration process at the beginning of the production run. It is also recommended to perform the calibration process once every few months, to ensure continued high-precision probing.

The calibration process consists of 5 easy steps, which are explained in detail on the control. The 5 steps continue to be conversational, where permitted.
