Overview

Haas Robot Package-50kg is an all inclusive robotic automation solution for your Haas machine. Everything needed to start automatic loading and unloading of parts is included in this package (robot, interface, etc.), so you can be up and running, fully automated, in a couple of hours, not days.

The main components included in Haas 50 kg Robot Pakage are:

  • FANUC M-710iC/50 6-axis robot arm
  • Robot electrical interface box
  • Interface for area scanners or light curtains
  • End-of-arm parts gripper
  • Part spring pusher

ATTENTION: A compatible safety system (perimeter fence, area scanner, or light curtain) is required, but NOT included, and must be purchased with the robot.

NOTE: Part table not included. The robot must be bolted to the floor, and requires a separate 200-230V 3-Phase, 50/60 Hz, 7.5 kVA power supply.

Connection Overview

Haas Machine + Haas Robot Package-50kg = Quick Setup and Easy Automation

Haas has simplified the communication between the CNC machine and the robot with our new Electrical Interface Box. This box includes every connection needed (except robot power) to be fully set up for robotic automation, including outlets for robot communication, safety system interlock (fence, area scanner, or light curtain), remote jog handles, and remote E-stops. Additional Electrical Interface Boxes can be purchased separately, allowing you to move your robot between multiple machines.

On mills, pair the Haas Robot Package with a Haas pneumatic vise with programmable air for fully autonomous part loading and unloading.

NOTE: The robot requires a separate 200-230V 3-Phase, 50/60 Hz, 7.5 kVA power supply.

Haas Robot Interface

Easy-to-Use Robot Interface

The robot is set up directly through the Haas control using the Haas Robot Interface, which guides the operator through the steps necessary to quickly program the robot’s motions using the Haas Touch Remote Jog Handle. Answering simple questions, the operator enters basic information by either positioning the part grippers and pushing a single button to record the position, or by entering basic numerical values. The motions are recorded and values are calculated automatically by the control, and the robot is ready for automatic parts loading.

A basic part management table can be created by setting up a grid pattern template of equally spaced rows and columns. The robot APL grippers can be configured for various part shapes – such as round, hex, and square bars – and adjusted or modified to best fit your parts.

The robot APL operates in the background during normal machining operations, returning parts to the storage table and retrieving new raw pieces, while parts are being machined. The result is near-continuous unattended machining.

Our easy-to-use Haas Robot Interface uses simple, step-by-step instructions to help the operator “teach” a 6-axis robot the correct positions for picking up, loading, and unloading parts.

  • The robot’s motion is operated directly from the Haas Touch Remote Jog Handle,  allowing for seamless integration
  • Step-by-step instructions and graphics help guide the operator through the setup process, for example:
    • Set the part template pattern – number of rows and columns
    • Set the first part pick-up position
    • Teach the linear path the robot arm will follow to the ready position
    • Set the ready position – where the robot will wait until machining is complete
    • Set the load and unload positions at the workholding
    • Set the drop-off position for the first completed part

The APL sequence has been expanded to allow for additional capabilities for the robot that our other standard APL's can't do.  Expanded capabilities for the robot include:

  • Part Flipping
  • Pickup and dropoff from multiple locations (allowing for conveyor feeds, etc.)
  • Load and Unload from multiple locations (Main or sub spindle, multiple vises)

APL Mode

Simple to Operate in APL Mode

APL Mode seamlessly combines the part program selected in Memory [MEM] with a designated robot setup template to automate part production and boost productivity.

A new M-code was developed for use with Auto Part Loaders (APL) and robots. M299 is typically used at the end of a part program. When the program is started by pressing [CYCLE START] in Memory mode, the M299 acts exactly like an M30 (Program End and Reset). But if the program is started while “APL Mode” is active, then the M299 will command the robot APL to load the first part from the table, and then run the active program in Memory.

  • APL Mode
    • Simply replace your M30 with an M299 at the end of your part program
    • From the Run Job tab, press [INSERT] to select the designated APL setup template (Job) and turn on APL Mode; an “APL Mode” watermark will appear over your program, and you’re ready to go
    • Press Cycle Start, and the robot will load the first part, and execute the part program in Memory
    • While the part is being machined, the robot will drop off the completed part, and then pick up new raw stock and stage it at the designated load position
    • The operator can monitor table status, the number of parts completed, which number part is inside the machine, and which part is next all from Run Job page
    • The cycle continues until all parts on the table are completed, or a specified number of parts is reached

    ROBOT SETUP VIDEOS

    STEP-BY-STEP ROBOT SETUP VIDEOS

    PART 1: INITIAL SETUP

To get started, navigate to the Devices tab on the Current Commands page. If you have a Haas Robot Package installed, you will have an additional tab, the Robot tab. The Robot tab contains three subtabs: Frames, Jogging, and Setup. Starting with the Setup tab, follow the prompts for setting up the robot.

To set up the Robot, hit the E-stop on the machine and power-on your robot control. Then, select F1; after a few moments, you will see the Robot connected, and the info updated. Now, release the E-stop and hit reset. You have now connected the Robot to your Haas Machine.

Watch the video above to set up the basic parameters for your Robot, from setting axis speeds and gripper weight, to setting the positions for the Robot.

    PART 2: SAFETY ZONES

Safety Zones are used to ensure your Robot stays within a specific boundary box to help limit the possibility of crashing into your machine.

First, align your robot to your cage and to the machine. Then, measure your Robot’s distance from the edge of your workspace. All dimensions need to be in millimeters (mm). After measuring all dimensions, you will need to set up your work zone by logging in to the HMI Pendent. You will need to connect the Robot to a computer with internet access via the ethernet cable.

Watch the video above for step-by-step set up of your Robot’s safety zones, and how to use the HMI Pendent.

    PART 3: TEMPLATE SETUP

Set up your parts table using the Template tab. The Template tab is a subtab of the Automatic Part Loader under the Devices tab in Current Commands. This is where you will tell your robot how your parts table is set up.

Start with Sequence Type, where you can choose between Simple and Custom Sequence. If you are a beginner, start with Simple mode. Once the Sequence type is selected, follow the control’s prompts and intuitive instructions to work through the remaining steps to set up your parts table.

Watch the video above to step through the operations to set up the parts table for your Robot.

    PART 4: LOAD PARTS TAB

Learn how to load parts into your machine using the Load Parts tab. You will first set up your robot speed. Next, you will initiate Handle Jog mode and set up the initial part pick up location. Once this is set, click F2 to set the reference position. Now, work down the different setup tabs to set the pick-up and drop-off spots for loading your part into your machine.

Watch the video above to set up the movements of your Robot to load your parts.

    PART 5: UNLOAD PARTS TAB

Learn how to use the Unload Parts tab to unload your parts from the machine. The first step is to select from where you wish the Robot to pick up your part, either the main spindle chuck or the sub-spindle chuck on a lathe, or any workholding you have set up on a mill.

Helpful hint: Record the first position of the finished part pick-up motion in the same position as the last recorded position of ready motion to make a smooth transition between these two motions.

Watch the video above to set up the movement of your Robot to pick up your finished parts.

PART 6: RUN JOB & APL SCHEDULER

Now, you are able to reap the benefits of your setup, and allow the robot to run your jobs unattended. Simply navigate to the Run Job tab, and load the job you would like to run. On this tab, you are able to see the current part being machined, the next part to be machined, the number of completed parts, and the total number of parts to be completed. On the APL Scheduler tab, you are able to schedule multiple jobs in sequence. Once the job is loaded, you are able to able to assign the jobs an order number, which corresponds to the order in which the job will be run.

Watch the video above to run and schedule your robot jobs.

    PART 7: CUSTOM SEQUENCES

Custom sequence types allow you to create your own set of motions, and implement them into your part program, instead of using the pre-programmed APL sequences in Simple Mode. To turn on custom sequences, simply navigate to the Template tab, and make sure the Sequence Type is set to Custom Sequence.

Watch the video above to learn how to set up and use custom sequences.

    FAQs

    1. Can I add a Haas Robot to an older machine if I add a non-Haas Auto Door? Yes. However, Haas robots can only be added to NGC machines. Please contact your local HFO or a 3rd-party integrator for integration. NOTE: Haas personnel are not responsible for the integration of the 3rd-party Auto Door. The end-user assumes full responsibility for the safety of the robot system.
    2. Is the Haas Auto Door field installable? Yes, but contact your HFO to make sure your machine is eligible for a field-installable Auto Door.
    3. Where is the E-stop when you are outside the cage? The E-stop is on the Haas Remote Jog Handle; the RJH-XL has an E-stop built-in.
    4. What other options should I consider for full automation? Other things that should be considered for full automation: Programmable air for pneumatic vises, chip fan.
    5. Am I limited to the Haas grippers? Aftermarket pneumatic grippers may be used; you are not limited to Haas grippers
    6. Why do I have to set up Safety Zones? Setting up Safety Zones can help prevent crashes into your machine and the fence.
    7. Can I purchase an additional robot electrical interface box? Yes, you can purchase an additional robot electrical interface box, but Haas does not sell the fence and interlock separately from the robot.
    8. How long is the warranty for the Haas Robot? The warranty for the Haas Robot is 2 years.
    9. Do I need to contact FANUC if the robot needs service? No, you contact your local HFO for any robot, machine, rotary service needs.
