500 mm Twin-Pallet HMC, 50-Taper, 32" x 25" x 28" travels

Designed for high-volume production and unattended operation for larger parts and tombstones, the EC-500/50 offers 50-taper power and a large work envelope with the smaller footprint of a 40-taper pallet-changing machine. It features fast rapids, a full 4th-axis rotary system for synchronous motion, and a rear-exit chip conveyor for efficient chip management.

50-Taper Spindle

The EC-500/50 comes standard with our 7500-rpm 50-taper spindle, which uses a Haas-built two-speed gearbox to provide a wide constant horsepower band, good low-speed torque for heavy cuts, and higher torque throughout the range above 500 rpm.

For heavy cuts and high material-removal rates, a high-performance 7500-rpm spindle is also available. Powered by a 60 hp vector drive, this spindle provides higher power throughout the rpm range than the standard spindle. A 10,000-rpm, 60 hp spindle is also available.

EC-500/50 Coolant Ring

The 4-nozzle coolant ring surrounding the spindle nose is perfectly positioned so that nozzles can be pointed at the shortest tools, and others can be positioned for longer tools. The compact, cylindrical design prevents chips from collecting on top. NOTE: The Haas Programmable Coolant Nozzle (P-COOL) is not available on the EC-500/50.

EC-500/50 Chip Management

The completely redesigned EC-500/50 has been improved from the ground up, with all new castings for increased rigidity, better cutting performance, 5 more inches of Y-axis travel, and vastly improved chip evacuation.

At the heart of the EC-500/50’s improved chip management system is a wider belt-type chip conveyor positioned in the center of the machine, directly under the spindle. The steep walls of the interior enclosure easily funnel chips to the conveyor. 

The conveyor discharges chips at the height of a full-size industrial barrel. Washdown nozzles mounted in the ceiling are fed by a separate coolant pump, and allow you to direct coolant flow to areas where chips may gather, to further enhance chip evacuation. 

EC-500/50 Cycloidal Rotary Drive

The cycloidal rotary drive system – designed for machine tools and robotics – provides a great combination of speed, accuracy, and durability to the B axis. The rugged design provides long service life, with little or no maintenance, and is especially durable in a crash. The cycloidal rotary drive can be back driven to absorb energy from an impact. The shock-load capacity is 5 times the rated torque of the gearbox, and the entire gearbox is a simple drop-in replacement, should damage occur.

EC-500/50 Hydraulic Pallet-Clamping System

The hydraulic power unit provides power to clamp the pallets to the pallet receiver, as well as raise and lower the pallet-changer mechanism.

EC-500/50 Increased Axis Travels


An extra 5" (127 mm) of Y-axis travel can make all the difference in the world. Now, the spindle centerline can get 27.13" (689 mm) above the surface of the pallet. 

EC-500/50 Stepped Base and Column

The stepped base and column design of the EC-500/50, where one X-axis linear guide rail is on a different horizontal plane than the other, increases the rigidity and stability of the spindle-head column assembly. With hydraulic pallet clamping and the stepped base/column design, the EC-500/50 is more rigid than ever, all the way to the top! 

EC-500/50 Automatic Probe Riser


An automatic probe arm stores the tool setting probe in a protective compartment during machining operations. When the tool probe is needed, an M104 code activates the automatic probe arm to lift the probe and lock it into place. When probing is complete, an M105 retracts the probe to its protective compartment.

*Haas machines are designed to operate on 220 VAC (200-240 VAC) power. An optional internal high-voltage transformer (380 - 480 VAC) is available for all models, except the Desktop Machines, CL-1, CM-1, and SR Series routers. This optional high-voltage internal transformer is not field installable; it must be ordered with the machine.

Haas machines destined for Europe and the UK are configured with an internal high-voltage non-isolated transformer to operate on 400 VAC, except the Desktop Machines, CL-1, CM-1, and SR Series routers. 

**Optional tool changers may have a different max tool size than the standard tool changer. Extra-large tools may require two adjacent pockets empty between tools. Click here for toolholder specifications.

ATTENTION! Optional high-performance spindles may have a higher power requirement than the standard spindle. However, if the spindle horsepower (kW) does not change, the power requirement remains the same. Verify the power requirement before running power for your machine.

† Air consumption on 40-taper DC Series machines may be higher, when Through-Tool Air Blast (TAB) is activated.
