CTE Solutions | Haas Customer Success Story
 

For more than 70 years, CTE Solutions has been making a long-standing impact in various industries in Northern Indiana. With more than 60 Haas VMCs, lathes, and rotaries on their shop floor, CTE can do everything from creating custom tooling and fixturing, to 5-axis machining for complex implants and instruments in the orthopedic industry.

“CTE has experienced tremendous growth in the last 10 years,” said Deven Berger, sales engineer. “It is not a strange sight to see multiple Haas machines show up out of the blue on the back of a truck. Of the Haas machines in our new facility, 80% are new, and the oldest piece isn’t much more than 3 years old. We still have some of our first pieces of Haas equipment being used in our original facility. Those machines are nearing 20 years old, and they run just as true as the new equipment.”

CTE Solutions got its start in 1950 as a “broaching house,” turning out parts for the automobile industry. Back then, the company was known as Culver Tool & Engineering, Inc.

In 1989, the company entered the medical industry, where things took off. CTE quickly became one of the largest contract spinal rod manufacturers in the orthopedic industry. In an effort to switch industries entirely and focus more on orthopedic implants, the company took on the name CTE Solutions, and began acquiring Haas machines to make the switch to CNC.

The company found that Haas machines are less complex, compared to other CNC machine options, especially for new operators just starting out in the industry.

“And having a career where Haas CNC machines are an everyday part of your life can be one less stress that you would have,” said Bobby Adams, manufacturing engineer. “Making your job more enjoyable, and producing more parts, with the end result of making your employer happy.”

The Appasamy Group: Clearing Clouds
Appasamy makes 80 percent of the intraocular lenses used in India to treat patients with cataracts. They also make the disposable syringes used to inject the lenses into the eye, as well as an enormous range of other instruments and equipment used in eye clinics and hospitals. The company relies on Haas machines to manufacture innovative products that meet local needs, at a cost far lower than imported products.
PCML: Team Building for a Better Future
In its early days, Cambridgeshire-based Haas UK customer PCML was a subcontract machine shop offering limited services to a just a few, mostly local, customers. These days, with the help of a stable of Haas machine tools, the company is a thriving contract manufacturer of complex, precision components for high-technology growth sectors, such as medical devices, ink jet printing, and life sciences.
