Super-Speed Twin-Pallet VMC with 22" x 16" x 20" (559 x 406 x 508 mm) travels

The VC-400SS is the super-speed version of our pallet-changing VC-400 VMC, which combines the versatility of a small VF Series vertical machining center with the pallet-changing ability of our EC-400 HMC. The fully integrated pallet changer allows you to set up jobs on one pallet, while you’re running parts on the other pallet. For additional productivity overnight, simply load up both pallets and push Cycle Start before heading home.

For high-volume work, set up the same job on both pallets, or set up each pallet differently for high-mix, low-volume work. For extended production and true “lights out” capability, a 6-station pallet pool and high-capacity tool changer are available. NOTE: The Pallet Pool requires the optional 50+1 side-mount tool changer.

Overview

The VC-400 and VC-400SS vertical machining centers combine the machining capabilities of a VF-1 with an HMC-style pallet changer to provide nearly continuous machining, with virtually no downtime. Load and unload parts on the pallet waiting at the load station, while the spindle is making chips in the work envelope to keep the machine producing parts. You can even set up a new job on one pallet, while your machine is making parts on the other. A dedicated pallet-scheduling table in the Haas control lets you check the status of each pallet.

Spindle


The VC Series machines feature the same powerful, shop-proven, Haas-built spindle that comes standard on most Haas vertical machining centers .

It is a 40-taper, inline direct-drive spindle, coupled directly to the motor to provide excellent surface finishes and greater thermal stability. The inline spindle is available in speeds up to 15,000-rpm, as well as HSK-A63 taper.

Pallet Changer

The VC-400 and VC-400SS come standard with a dual-pallet changing system for uninterrupted production. With the mill-style table, you can have two vises side by side on each pallet to run small batch parts, or you can run large parts by setting up one operation on each pallet with multiple vises. 

The table features three standard 5/8" (16 mm) T-slots that accept nearly any type of workholding, for fast, easy setups.

Hydraulic Pallet Clamping

The hydraulic power unit provides power to clamp the pallets to the pallet receiver, as well as raise and lower the pallet-changer mechanism.

Hydraulic clamping ensures repeatable accuracy for every pallet change, and provides high rigidity for heavy machining.

Pallet Pool (Optional)

Whether you’re doing high-volume production runs, high-mix/low-volume machining, or just want to run lights-out, our fully integrated pallet pool systems can boost your productivity. The VC Seriec Pallet Pool integrates seamlessly with the Haas control, which includes a simplified Pallet Scheduling Table that allows job scheduling functions from a single dedicated page. You can assign programs to each pallet, and re-start a job in the middle of the process.

Side-Mount Tool Changer

The VC-400 and VC-400SS come standard with a 30+1 toolside-mount tool changer. 

We’ve produced our own tool changers since 1988, with complete integration and functionality in mind. We use our own designs, and wouldn’t have it any other way.

This Haas side-mount tool changer features a servo-driven carousel that allows direct positioning to any tool in the carousel – no more indexing one pocket at a time. Faster positioning reduces cycle times during short machining operations, or when the carousel is not pre-staged for the next tool.

Chip Management

At the heart of the VC-400’s chip management system is a wide belt-type chip conveyor positioned in the center of the machine, directly under the spindle. The steep walls of the interior enclosure easily funnel chips to the conveyor. 


The conveyor discharges chips at the height of a full-size industrial barrel. Washdown nozzles mounted in the ceiling are fed by a separate coolant pump, and allow you to direct coolant flow to areas where chips may gather, to further enhance chip evacuation. 

Automatic Probe Riser (Optional)


An automatic probe arm stores the tool setting probe in a protective compartment during machining operations. When the tool probe is needed, an M104 code activates the automatic probe arm to lift the probe and lock it into place. When probing is complete, an M105 retracts the probe to its protective compartment.

Stepped Base and Column

The stepped base and column design of the VC-400/SS, where one X-axis linear guide rail is on a different horizontal plane than the other, increases the rigidity and stability of the spindle-head column assembly. With hydraulic pallet clamping and the stepped base/column design, the machine is very rigid, all the way to the top of travel!

*Haas machines are designed to operate on 220 VAC (200-240 VAC) power. An optional internal high-voltage transformer (380 - 480 VAC) is available for all models, except the Desktop Machines, CL-1, CM-1, and SR Series routers. This optional high-voltage internal transformer is not field installable; it must be ordered with the machine.

Haas machines destined for Europe and the UK are configured with an internal high-voltage non-isolated transformer to operate on 400 VAC, except the Desktop Machines, CL-1, CM-1, and SR Series routers.

ATTENTION! Optional high-performance spindles may have a higher power requirement than the standard spindle. However, if the spindle horsepower (kW) does not change, the power requirement remains the same. Verify the power requirement before running power for your machine.
