Mid South Precision is a small contract manufacturing firm in Murfreesboro, TN, that specializes in complex medical devices and machined components. Started by owner Joe Harvat 9 years ago, the company currently has a staff just shy of 20 employees.

Recognized as a top supplier in the medical industry for providing very close tolerance parts to their customers, Mid South Precision relies on a stable of Haas CNC machines to handle their precision machining work, including two Haas VF-2SSYTs, one DM-2, and two DM-1s, all equipped with Haas rotary tables. The company currently has 7 customers who specialize in medical devices and medical instruments.

Mid South’s capabilities include 5 axis CNC machining and CNC Swiss machining services for the medical device industry, as well as contract machining services, prototyping, and low- to high-volume production runs. They provide the unique precision required by medical device manufacturers, and are able to manufacture burr-free, tight-tolerance parts from all types of metals, including aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium alloys.

Tecomet: A Spine for Investment
People often assume that opportunity comes before action in business. But Peter Wong at Willmington, MA-based Tecomet invested in seven Haas DT-1 Drill/Tap Centers with Haas TR160Y trunnion tables – before he knew how he was going to use them. The company now has a state-of-the-art machining department, and a thriving spinal-implant business unit.
The Appasamy Group: Clearing Clouds
Appasamy makes 80 percent of the intraocular lenses used in India to treat patients with cataracts. They also make the disposable syringes used to inject the lenses into the eye, as well as an enormous range of other instruments and equipment used in eye clinics and hospitals. The company relies on Haas machines to manufacture innovative products that meet local needs, at a cost far lower than imported products.
